25-man:

2 tanks
5 healers
18 prime dps

40.3M health
5 minute enrage
= 134,333 dps
/ 18
= avg 7,462 dps per person

if our 2 tanks manage to do 4k dps between them that still leaves an average of over 7200 dps for each of the 18 dps. 45 seconds of the 300 seconds will be under Bloodlust, but you still need to crank out the damage. So half-hearted off-specs likely won't cut it.

To add to the difficulty, you can't just stand in one spot and blow stuff up. Ranged needs to maintain a distance of 8-10' from anyone else until Spores come. Then everyone needs to collapse to the 3 pre-assigned spore points to make sure everyone gets the buff so they don't die when he exhales. They need to immediately spread back out or anyone within 8' will start vomiting.

Any dps wanting to come to this fight should be in almost all 245+ gear and know how to move and dps.

10-man:

9.5M health

/ 300 seconds
= 31,667 dps

5 dps @ 6,333 average
5dps+2tanks doing 3.2k combined = about 5700 avg dps

Some notes:

at 0:25 seconds you'll see the tree on teh left get a skull, turn red, and start puking (sawdust?). Anyone within 8' of him will puke too.

at :33 the Lock taking the video gts a skull and a Spore over his head. He then runs to the left side "Spore Point" where everyone on the left side should collapse to get the buff.

at :55 both the Lock and the Boomkin next to him get marks and start to puke. This is probably because they were too close.

at 1:13 2 people on the left side get a Spore. One of those needs to move to either the melee or the Right side. There are only 3 Spores at a time. 1 needs to go left, one right, and 1 to melee. It will be easiest if Skull is the one to move if 2 people near each other get it. (or X if Skull is solo) But we'll figure that out after we do the fight a few times.

at 1:35 ourfriendly neighborhood Lock and his buddy Boomkin both are puking again. This time though it looks like they were both targetted.

at 2:26 he starts his cast for the Exhale. At that point everyone in the raid is going to take 60k+ of Shadow damage. Ouch. However each time you get a Spore buff it reduces it by 25%. So 3 stacks = 75% reduction = 15k.

at 4:11 you'll see 2 people get Spore in melee. Only one of them should run out to whatever side doesn't have it.

Meh, Sometimes the Dragon wins.
sounds like the nax boss on a batch of angry steroids... this one might be hard for me ive been having a little trouble with the stick and move on affliction.. ill be working a little harder for prep.

Boned. Lol
There's not much movement. And you have 12 seconds to get there.

Mucho importante though is getting spread out as soon as the Spore pops.

For the early birds, I think we got this.

Positioning was very good on the last attempt. Me & Jovi now know to NOT stand slightly to the side...

DPS for Joeman, Miri, & Verty was a bit light, but some of that was after me & Jovi died, so we may have been right on target. Each DPS needs to be pulling 5200+.

You have 12 seconds to collapse, and about 2 seconds to spread back out. As long as you know where the spore is, finish your cast and then move. Actually... for ranged, is it better to always collapse on one point? Whoever is in the middle? A Verty sandwich no matter what? Then you guys will know "oh Spores? hop on Verty" Is that what you were doing already?

Maybe have Blood go Ele spec and help heal the tanks during 3 breathes? Or stay Resto, and help dps during 0-1 breath....
Late night group is having issues keeping the tanks alive after 3rd breath.

100% -> 9% -> dead all in a matter of one second.

The way we did it was:

2nd breath, 1st tank starts using CDs
2nd tank taunts at 9 stacks, and chains his CDs for the 3rd breath. High damage phase lasts about 20 seconds, so 2 CDs will be needed for maximum security. DS + GS/PS, then maybe AD.. ;p

The tank with 8-9 stacks of Bloat will be doing 80-90% increased damage. So make sure you manage your threat.

Do the spores provide a DPS buff? If so what is the actual base DPS required for the fight?

How many people must spread out from the group in 25 man? (Is it just 3 like in 10 man or more).

Typical group composition consists of 7 healers so 2 healers must go DPS. Do we have any healers 245 DPS gear equipped?

Okay, so if only three people need to spread out in 25 man, would it be best to have the 3 lowest DPSers do the spreading? This way you can keep the heavy cannons firing away without losing any of their guns due to repositioning.

I kinda like the idea we had in 10 man last night for the spores. That was having one group for the spore buff and having the second spore carrier just run out of range. If something like that can be done on 25 man it'll simplify the process. For example, the skull spore to the group/other raid mark spore carriers just run away.
No DPS buff from spores. But it Does do a DoT for 4500/sec. ;p

Minimum of 7 at range to avoid melee getting the puke debuff. (Which is basically all of our ranged dps)

3 spores at a time in 25-man. Range left side, range right side, Melee.

Typical group composition going forward as a Guild should be 5 healers with 2-3 dps with a healing offspec for when needed.

Actual dps requirements for 18 dps is an average of 7200+. Including movement.
Yes Nick, we were making Verty sandwiches the whole time, seemed to be a good way to do it, good to know we have more time (12 sec) to get there than what I figured. So for myself I'll finish cast run there(while casting instants), and then after getting buff will blink back.
And Miri could do the same in 10 mans, which should work well for us.
So now that we've seen it on 25, what do you guys think?

I picked the points of the stars as a visual reference point for ease of stacking. It seems to be a bit too far from the boss to be healer friendly though. We can be a little closer, and each side can setup in a trianlge/box/whatever. You don't need to be in a straight line. (Though if that puts you 8 yds from the stack point, and the raid healers can reach you, that's a great spot too)

We need 7+ people at range and alive for the melee to not get hit by the puking debuff.

Killa needs to be out there, so he'll be one rally point. The other rally point could be Verty, since she's very easy to see (no I'm not calling you fat...). Those 2 pick a spot and never move. Each side collapses on them during the spores, and we all work together to make sure that there's a spore on each side and in melee.

DPS wise I think we got this. He was at 26m of 40m at the first Exhale, and we hadn't used Bloodlust or were fully buffed. Plus half the ranges was running around trying to figure out where to go during spores.
I was kind of distracted by his raw sexiness...

Seriously, it did seem like he got him down pretty quick (even without full buffs). I thought the placement was pretty good, as now peeps (ranged dps) know where to go for the spores, but like Nic said we need to move up a bit (dead dps=no dps). Might I suggest whoever the rally person is, place yourself kind of in the middle of your respective side (so peeps dont have to run as far to get to you). Thus if I'm on the left, you'll always know where to go. I had to run over to the right side for the spore once and the bastard disappeared before I got there. Other than that, FESTERGUT DIES NEXT WEEK! Is it me, or does it seem like our 25 is burning through ICC???

I had someone at work read this thread. He plays computer games, but not online rpgs. He was pretty confused, so I decided to create a Pro graphic (/cough) to help visualize.

Tree in the middle to raid heal everyone, Killa and Verty both park in a spot.

Both Killa and Verty have 2 dps 'partners'. K1, K2, V1, V2.

The K's collapse on Killa, the V's on Verty. The Tree goes wherever.

If there are 2 spores with the K's, one of them needs to move. Either to Melee or to the V's. and Vice Versa. If there are 2 spores in melee, one will need to move.

Since everyone needs to understand this strat, I'm gonna bury a bonus right here. 500 gold to a /random when Fester dies. To be able to /roll, you must reply to this thread by Monday night 8 server.

I love the optimism Keith, I like to think the new push in progression is based on a few factors:
• Key strategy change on Lord M and Lady D from Nick – great audible by the way!
• The whole team focused on what to do, and not to do
• Commitment from the team to improve – the audits are really starting to show some results… keep them going
• Consistency in the team makeup and showing up raid ready

The next two fights are a DPS check (Festergut), which I think we will pass and a raid awareness check (Rotface), which will see how many of us have been paying attention to the strategy videos and understand their surroundings.

Personally the Rotface fight reminds me of the Terron Gorefiend fight in BT. A single person’s inability to handle an assigned task when marked, could wipe the raid. Please watch videos and be prepared for that one.

There is still much to do in ICC and it is great to see the raid team perform, well… like a team. Great job to all and keep up the great work.

Cheers,
Griff

Nic, love the visual dood. To clarify, should V and I stay put no matter what? That being the case, whoever gets the second spore on the same side needs to move, post haste, to the other side.

Griff, well said. As they told me in the Marines a long time ago, "there is no 'I' in team." Personally, after studying the videos, officer strat discussion kind brings it all together for me (as well as the thoughtful analysis here in the forums).

I will presume to say we all subscribe to the idea of a "COMMITTMENT TO EXCELLENCE!"

Just for reference the Ks and Vs aren't labeled though if anyone can't figure that out the strategy itself is going to be a problem, lol.

Anyway, I wanted to make a point of thanking Nic for all the coaching and strategy work. I know I may get prickly sometimes when I feel like I'm being called out (it's easier to bitch than to not suck, but I'm trying) but I do appreciate the work you do either way.

Hey Nick, I think this strat covers the ranged pretty well, however we need to work out what happens when we get 2 or more spores in melee range. Is it even possible for 3 of them to be in melee?

Let me edit this a bit, with 2 in melee, having a verbal call out to which way to run would probably help in the success of this, "X run to the east or Y run to the west" Just tossing stones out there.

Also thanks for the offer, but...

/rollpass

Just give me the dead boss and I'll be happy.
